This isn’t your usual facebook post – but instead an urgent plea for help for the father of a good friend and boxer lover who is in a dire situation.  Svetlana’s father, Fiodor, is 78 years old and a retired veteran of over 25 years.  In November 2021 he was diagnosed with COVID resulting in him suffering cardiological and neurological complications.  He is currently in a long-term care facility in Belarus.  Belarus is, unfortunately, under USA sanctions right now meaning all data, money, gifts and travel between the USA and Belarus is highly scrutinized and regulated.   Finding out information on Fiodor, has been extremely difficult.  Svetlana has not spoken with her father since October 2021, there is no communication, pictures, videos etc to show his condition or care.  With the sanctions imposed, it is impossible to send money or resources to the care home.    With the tenuous relationships between the USA and Belarus it is apparent we must bring at Fiodor here.   Svetlana has no idea the condition her father is in and what she will find on arrival in Belarus but it is apparent that time is of the essence.

Feb 18, 2022 - UPDATE!

Svetlana was able to travel to Belarus to see her father for just 2 short hours. He is still recovering from COVID and still in a wheelchair. He did recognize Svetlana and talked about their memories together. He has a special nurse that takes care of him each day and her name is "Svetlana" too. Two aides help him exercise each day as he looks to relearn how to walk. He has a good appetite and has been able to start playing cards and chess again.

He looks forward to a new life in the USA and misses his daughter, Svetlana, and grandson. He is just one step from the immigration interview and will need to travel to the American Embassy in Poland for that. As long as his immigration application is approved at that interview, he will be able to travel to the USA. The journey and process is long and expensive at the best of times and even more difficult now with his fragile health and the political tensions in the area.

Any donation is much appreciated! If you are not able to donate, please consider sharing instead!

Thank you!
